Mt Conness

Clyde Minaret

Mt Tom

The most prominent peak as seen from Bishop.

From Hwy 395 take Pine Ck Rd to Rovana, then take Vanadium Ranch Rd south for 0.5 miles and turn right to the base of Elderberry Canyon. The road continues up the Canyon but it is not recommended to drive it.

Elderberry Canyon potentially provides a 7000' ski descent. The chutes off of the summit are quite steep, but most of the descent is a moderate grade.

Mt Humphreys

A peak which is visible to the south of Mt Tom with a distinctively shaped summit massif.

Drive Hwy 168 from Bishop to Buttermilk Rd. Take Buttermilk Rd to its 2nd (upper) crossing of McGee Ck. On foot follow the south side of the creek. Climb up to the saddle between Mt Humphreys and Peaklet 12,241. Follow the E Ridge to the summit.

Mt Darwin

Mt Darwin is the highest peak in the Evolution region.

Lamarck Col is the most popular way into Darwin Canyon from the east side. Elev 13,000 class 2. Secor says that it "has none of the loose rock found on other passes, and the talus is not as severe."

Darwin Col connects Sabrina Basin with Darwin Canyon. Darwin Col is elev. 12,800 class 2. Secor mentions a "steep scree gully" which "leadsup the east side of this pass from Blue Heaven Lake".

Mt Mendel

Mt Mendel is about a mile NW of Mt Darwin.

The Evolution Traverse is Peak 13,360, Mendel, Darwin, Peak 13,332, Haeckel, Wallace, Fiske, Warlow, and Huxley.

Temple Crag

Middle Palisade

Croft considers the E Face of Middle Palisade one of the two best class 3 routes in the Sierra.
